Programme Background
The certified instructor programme was developed by the BCHPA in order to ensure beginning beekeepers would be taught the basic essentials needed to meet with success. Course development was brought in at half of the allotted budget and is run on a cost-recovery basis.
Timelines:
Spring 2010 Beginning the curriculum base for Beginner Beekeepers’ Course
– This was done, in part, from a survey of over fifty BCHPA beekeepers from around the Province.
– Plans for instructor manual, student manual, handouts etc.
– A minimum time frame for instruction was determined.
2010 – 2012 Development of Curriculum
– A guide for instructors, including student handouts, digital lesson aids, and suggested lesson plans for delivery the BCHPA Introductory
Beekeeping course were fleshed out
– design of Workshop
– a binder of BCHPA instructional materials , teaching materials and effective teaching strategies for workshop participants.
2013 Creation of final exams and certificates
– for certified instructors and
– for introductory beekeeper students
October 25, 2013 Pilot project course presentation in Kelowna
– Graduation of twelve instructors
– Materials and methods found to be successful.
January 2015 BCHPA Certified Instructors’ Course Policies and Procedures finalized
– Responsibilities of BCHPA Certified Instructor Training Program Committee
– Responsibilities of Certified BCHPA Instructors Conducting Introductory Beekeeping Courses
March 12, 2015 Instructors’ Course Offering in Kamloops
– Graduation of twelve instructors
April 2015 Fine-tuning of application process, new web page created
