Purpose of Committee
The Commercial Beekeeping Committee is a joint sub-committee to the BC Honey Producers’ Association, made up with commercial beekeeping industry representatives directly involved in British Columbia Commercial Beekeeping. The Commercial Beekeeping Committee consults in a cooperative spirit to identify and resolve barriers to commercial beekeeping in BC, and support (current and future) commercial beekeepers with province specific education/ knowledge transfer/ advancement and funding opportunities. The Commercial Beekeeping Committee is intended to complement the BC Honey Producers Association’s stated purposes with a specific focus on elevating commercial beekeeping in BC. The Commercial Beekeeping Committee will operate with an emphasis on inclusion, support, and industry development. The Commercial Beekeeping Committee will not tolerate division, disrespect, politics for personal gain, or personal agendas.
Duties and Functions of the Committee
a) Identify situations that may create barriers to the development of commercial beekeeping operations in BC and advise on effective solutions for responding to those situations.
b) Consult with BC Honey Producers’ Assoc Executive and commercial beekeepers on issues related to commercial beekeeping in BC.
c) Consult with industry stakeholders (BCBBA, Tech Transfer Program, BC Pollinators, Canadian Honey Council etc.) on the development of the commercial beekeeping industry in BC, identifying issues and opportunities related to the successful development of commercial beekeeping in BC.
d) Make recommendations to the BC Honey Producers’ Assoc Executive and commercial beekeepers for the improvement of commercial beekeeping in BC and monitor their effectiveness.
e) Make recommendations to the BC Honey Producers’ Assoc Executive on educational programs promoting commercial beekeeping in BC and monitor their effectiveness.
f) Advise the BC Honey Producers’ Assoc Executive on commercial beekeeping programs, policies, and best practice management and monitor their effectiveness.
g) Carry out any other duties and functions relative to the development of commercial beekeeping in BC.
