Honey Competition Rules for BC Honey Producers Association October 2016 AGM
You are invited to submit your Honey Products in the 2016 BEST OF B.C. HONEY COMPETITION. Prizes with ribbon will be awarded for overall scores in each category or class for First and Second Place.
Judges will Score using the National Scale of Points for Judging Honey. Judge Score Card
- Exhibitors may enter in one or more liquid honey classes.
- All entries must be those of registered attendees or volunteers and submitted to the entry desk no later than 9:00 a.m. Oct 14, 2016. Once honey is delivered to the entry desk, participants cannot touch their entries until the competition is over.
- Labels or any distinctive design that could identify the exhibitor will not be allowed on the entries until judging is complete. Each exhibitor may only enter one item per Class Category.

- Each person entering items in the honey competition will be assigned a number to be placed at the proper place on the entry tag. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to see that their entries are correctly classified and tagged.
- Entries will be judged commencing Friday, October 14, 2016 at 9:00 am. Winners will be announced at the Banquet Dinner Friday evening.
General Rules for Competition:
An exhibitor may not enter more than one exhibit in any one class. The exhibitor must colour grade their entry correctly prior to registration (or major points will be deducted).
- All entries of honey must be the product of the exhibitor’s apiary from the current year (2016), and prepared by the exhibitor.
- Labels or any distinctive design that could identify the exhibitor will not be allowed on the containers until judging is complete.
- Entries should be from the same honey batch and all jars in each entry must colour match.
- The standard for colour will be based on the Canada Honey Classifier. Honey with moisture reading of more than 18.6 per cent will be disqualified.
- Ribbons and prize for first, ribbon for second and third place will be awarded in each categories. All exhibitors are encouraged to contribute a honey jar, honey frame, or wax from their exhibit for the Silent Auction at the banquet. Acknowledge on entry form please.

- Self-satisfaction and admiration from your peers will be the real prize. This is strictly a friendly competition so bring along your best product and leave fears at the door, especially newbees. This is how we learn (one learns best from our mistakes). We can do this!
Honey Contest – Registration information:** Contestants to handle their own entry – Please do not handle other contestant’s entries.
- Contestant will bring in their three possible colour grade honey entries, wax, or a Frame of Honey. They will fill out the Individual Registration Sheet. They will choose their own honey colour/grading.
- They will be assigned a numbered sticker to place on their entry. If they are entering more than one category the sticker will be the same number.
- The information will be transferred to a master sheet with the assigned numbers.
EXAMPLE: If someone is entering Light Honey they will be given 3 Stickers with the Number one (1) .They will place it on the jar lid and move the 3 Jars of Honey to the Display Table. At no time should anyone other than the owner touch the Jars. If they are entering the wax and/or frame category they will receive additional stickers, also with number one (1). The next person entries will receive the number 2 and so on.
